Chris Hannay

Director - Principal

Prior to commencing his career in law, Chris was a member of the New South Wales Police force where he specialised in criminal investigation, and in particular, Drug Law Enforcement. Chris has also worked for law enforcement agencies in Queensland such as the Crime and Corruption Commission. Chris’ professional experience places him in an advantageous position, as he is able to conduct criminal matters having knowledge of both sides involved in the process.

Chris practices exclusively in criminal law. Chris deals with all criminal matters, including major crime commissions, drug offences, murder and manslaughter, sexual assaults, serious robbery offences. Chris has worked, and continues to work at the forefront of many high-profile criminal matters. He prides his firm on its ability to relate to all members of the community and provide high quality legal representation and exceptional services to all clients. The philosophy of Chris’ firm is to remove our client’s anxiety and stress at a time when they are most vulnerable.

Chris is passionate about protecting his client’s rights and represents clients in all criminal jurisdictions. He has extensive experience with criminal and regulatory prosecutions, and represents our clients at the trial and appellate level. He is often consulted for his opinion regarding prominent legal matters, and is one of the most sought-after criminal law practitioners in Queensland.

Daniel Hannay

Director - Solicitor

Daniel completed a Bachelor of Law and Criminology at Bond University and was admitted to practice as a solicitor in the Supreme Court in 2014. Daniel now works with Chris as Director of Hannay Lawyers and operates primarily from our Brisbane office.

Prior to his admission to the Supreme Court, Daniel worked as a law clerk with our team for five years. Daniel practices exclusively in criminal law, and has acted in some of the most serious and high-profile legal matters in Queensland. He has represented hundreds of accused individuals in Queensland, and also deals with matters in every criminal jurisdiction. Daniel has also appeared in the High Court on several occasions.

Daniel also received mention in the Doyle’s guide to Leading Criminal Lawyers in Queensland for 2016. Daniel deals regularly in all criminal matters including serious matters such as murder and manslaughter, robberies, assaults, drug offences, serious sexual offences, weapons offences and juvenile offences. Daniel’s vast experience in many areas of criminal law extends to the trial and appellate level. Daily, Daniel also appears before the court for guilty pleas, bail applications and work licences resulting from drink driving convictions.

Daniel is also passionate about serving the community and supports various charities, including the Starlight Foundation and Radio Lollipop.

Lee Quinn

Solicitor

Lee has been with Hannay Lawyers since August 2017 and was admitted to practice as a Solicitor in the Supreme Court in June 2018. He brings a wealth of knowledge in dealing with all matters of criminal law.

Prior to his admission to the Supreme Court, Lee was a member of the Queensland Police for a number years, which included working at the Criminal Justice Commission, now known as the Crime and Corruption Commission.

After leaving the Police Service, Lee was employed with Queensland Parliament where he worked in the role as Security Supervisor as well as relieving as the Manager of Security and Sergeant at Arms of the Parliament.

During Lee’s study at Southern Cross University, Lee received the respected Bruce Miles Foundation Scholarship award for Excellence in the study of Law.

With an attention to detail combined with his ability to interpret legislation, Lee has achieved great results for clients by having charges withdrawn due to errors made by police either during the investigation process, interview process or where legislation has not been followed.

As with all Solicitors at Hannay Lawyers, Lee has a strong focus on advocating on behalf of our clients to assist in the best possible outcome for them.

Hugh Stitt

Solicitor

Hugh joined the Hannay Lawyers team as a Law Clerk in January 2018, and was admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland as a Solicitor in June 2018. He has completed a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Business (International Business and Finance) at the Queensland University of Technology

Hugh has been working in Criminal Law since the beginning of 2017, where he has gained invaluable exposure to a vast array of criminal proceedings. He has been directly involved in many serious criminal matters, including but not limited to Murder, Attempted Murder, Drug Trafficking, Drug Importation, Armed Robbery, Grievous Bodily Harm and Serious Sexual Offences. Hugh also regularly deals with Summary Offences and Traffic Offences.

Hugh regularly appears in the Magistrates Court, District Court, Supreme Courts and Children’s Courts. He is extremely personable and prides himself on getting the best possible result for his client.

Farshad Sarabi

Law Clerk

Farshad has completed a Bachelor of Laws at Griffith University Gold Coast, completing his Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the College of Law.

Farshad is due to be admitted to practice as a solicitor in the Supreme Court in July 2018. Prior to his admission to the Supreme Court, Farshad commenced employment with our office as a law clerk, where he has gained invaluable experience and insight in all aspects relating to criminal and traffic law.

Farshad is extremely experienced with, and assists our office in drafting affidavits, applications to the Court, briefs for Barristers, submissions, and regularly appears with clients for their initial and subsequent court appearances.

Farshad is fluent in Persian (Farsi) and Arabic and has the ability to be able to translate for clients and read and write documents. He can also translate the Afghani language, which is an extreme attribute to our office and the diverse clientele we assist on a day to day basis.

Farshad always strives to achieve the best possible outcome for our clients when handling their cases and always puts clients best interests at the forefront of his priorities. Farshad has appeared on matters on the Gold Coast and Brisbane, regularly attending court and appearing on all types of criminal and civil matters.

Tahli Passeri

Practice manager

Tahli has been part of our team since Hannay Lawyers commenced operation, and has ten years experience in law practice Office Administration. She is responsible for the daily undertakings of our offices in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast, and also works as Chris and Daniel’s Personal Assistant.

Tahli deals with all types of legal matters, including criminal law, traffic matters, domestic and family violence matters and civil litigation matters. She is often the first point of call for our clients, and is also responsible for the operation of the office and handles all accounts for the firm. Tahli assists our office in organising town agencies when we are requested by other firms to appear on their behalf in matters on the Gold Coast.

Tahli is also responsible for addressing client enquiries and liases with other firms and Barristers regularly to assist in the facilitation of our client’s legal matters. Our clients appreciate Tahli’s approachable manner, and are always assisted with professionalism and commitment.

Rachel McDonald

Office Administrator

Rachel joined our team at Hannay Lawyers mid-way through 2017. She has over 4 years’ experience working as a personal assistant and providing skills of an administration assistant whilst working overseas in the United Kingdom and Canada since 2013. Whilst working for companies in Finance and Oil and Gas, Rachel has a much broader outlook on day to day tasks and brings a different approach to the office routine.
Rachel is now located in the Brisbane office who is responsible for the daily actions and support for Daniel Hannay. She is the first point of contact for all clients and maintains the office floor with reception, filing and administration duties.

Emma Arkinstall

Office Administrator

Emma has recently commenced with our team at Hannay Lawyers however has been working in the industry for eight years and is experienced in Office Administration within law firms. She assists Tahli, the Practice Manager, in the running of the Gold Coast office and assists all solicitors, law clerks and administration staff within the Gold Coast office.

Emma has experience in all types of matters, including criminal law, traffic matters, domestic and family violence matters and family law matters. Emma is often the first point of call for our client’s as she screens all incoming calls and maintains the front desk in the Gold Coast office.

Emma has also commenced her law degree and assists the office when needed for court attendances, telephone appearances, arranging town agencies, drafting client material, liaising with clients and other professional staff such as solicitors and barristers. Emma has excellent communication skills and is always happy to offer assistance to any client or colleague.
